Gawain explains that his allegiance lies with Arthur and Queen Guinevere in their kingdom of Camelot. This is revealed when Gawain states, "Release me, my liege, from this bench, and let me come to you, permit me to rise with no discourtesy, and without displeasing your queen" (Raffel 58). Gawain says this so he may take the challenge of the Green Knight and prove his allegiance to King Arthur, Queen Guinevere, and his home of Camelot. Odysseus explains that his allegiance lies with his wife Penelope and to his home land of Ithica when he is with the goddess Calypso. Odysseus says, "I long to reach my home and see the day of my return. It is my never failing wish" (Homer 68). This quote illustrates how Odysseus is able to resist the temptation to be immortal and his desire to one day go back to his home of Ithica with his wife Penelope. The final aspect of chivalry that Gawain and Odysseus demonstrate is how they fight fairly. Gawain displays how he fights fairly and upholds his nightly virtue of chivalry when goes to the Green Knight's chapel and allows the Green Knight to return one swing of an axe to his neck. Although Gawain does not get his head cut off like the Green Knight, he learns he should have been truthful and returns to Arthur's castle to tell of his encounter with the Green Knight (Raffel 120). Odysseus displays his ability to fight fairly when his journey leads him to the home of the Cyclops. It is there were Odysseus was forced to defend himself and his crew because the Cyclops had threatened to eat them all. Odysseus defends himself by stabbing the Cyclops with a hot, sharp olive steak that he drove into the Cyclops" eye (Homer 120). Odysseus and Gawain reveal their chivalry by being men of honor, who have allegiance to their state, and fight fairly. .
             Along with being chivalrous, Gawain and Odysseus were adventure heroes. Gawain and Odysseus both had a call to adventure, announced their names along their journey, and returned home to their kingdoms.
