Constituion

How would you change the federal system and the Constitution's checks and balances to make the government work better?.
The framers of the Constitution set it up in a fashion that would free them from the tyrannical rule that they were previously subject to. They set up our government to have three major branches that could handle affairs in just and democratic fashion. In setting up theses three branches, each particular branch is held accountable by the other two in order to ensure the constitution is held up. This system of checks and balances is our government way of making tasks legal and Constitutional sound for the people that will be affected. Unfortunately this system also incurs with it a lengthy process that makes getting things done somewhat difficult and very time consuming, even for the most menial tasks. The federal system works in a fashion that prevents issues from slipping through the cracks, but this lengthy process prevents many important tasks from getting done quickly. Although I feel that the system of checks and balances is key to ensuring the safety of our rights its friction is something that I feel could be made more efficient. For the most part I wouldn't change our system too much. I feel that it is necessary for each branch to keep the other branches in check. .
If I were to suggest a change in this system I would focus on our system of electing the president. Our current system uses votes from the Electoral College to decide who will become our president. I feel that this system is unjust for a number of reasons. In the state of New Jersey I am a registered voter, but because this state's Electoral College members usually vote for the democratic candidate and I usually vote for the republican, my vote is not heard. I feel that it is important for everyone to go out and vote because it is what makes our country so great but at times I feel that my efforts are futile.
