Even to this day, 12 years later, I go to music for comfort, and just like the kid on the bus, music is still like a friend. I found my love and passion for music long ago. At first it was there for me because I was down, but now it is there because I love it. I have always been the singer in my family, always the showman. It never occurred to me until I needed music the most, how powerful music can be in someone's life. My life is living proof of that. I could not tell you why music makes me feel the way it does, but it does. When I sing I feel at ease, I lose myself in the music and my soul shines through. It is one of the best feelings in the world. "The feeling is indescribable, when you love something, and your so passionate about something, there is no other choice but to pursue that," said University of Missouri - Kansas City conservatory student, Paul Thomas. .
Every music person has their own story of how they began to love music. "Music has been the main subject of everything in my family. My dad is a high school vocal director, and my mom is the accompanist for the high school. Both of them have music degrees and my sister is in college right now getting hers. The minute I was born I was surrounded by music. Music is just in my blood," said UMKC conservatory student, Tanna Ward. Some music majors start liking music later on in life, for instance Paul Thomas. "I went to a private school until I was in high school. They weren't big on music. It wasn't until high school that I really started enjoying music. I had a great teacher who really inspired me to go on with music.".
From very early on I knew I wanted to have a career in music. With that, I always dreamed I would go to college as well. Life as a music major can be inspiring and challenging, thrilling and exhausting, but it's anything but an easy choice of study. In fact, I believe music may be one of the most challenging majors out there.
