Body Image In The Media

The media's depiction of the ideal body image may not be exclusively at fault for reducing a woman's body image to the point of using eating disorders, dangerous supplements, excessive exercise, or as drastic as liposuction procedures, but they are definitely a catalyst. .
The negative consequences that come with the fixation with weight to both the individual women as well as society is that women have resorted to extreme measures in the past as well as the present to conform to the social ideal of their times. As compared to today's extremes, the past represents just as bad an example. Corsets were worn to create an hourglass shape that made women "beautiful" at that time. Women of the past would surgically remove ribs in order to create the flawless look of the ages. In today's society women get liposuction in order to receive the same results.
The main reason women seem to recognize their bodies as problems is that the societies and cultures we live in fabricate a language that states that women are only valued for their beauty. A woman's sense of self is the very foundation of her personality; she acts with what she thinks and believes. Becoming a product of our thoughts influences the daily choices that must be made, as well as the interaction within society. The personality of a person depends all on how high or low their self-image is as well as their environment around them. .
When women judge their bodies they do not judge what is seen as a whole, let alone what they observe inside. Their bodies are picked apart piece by piece, trying to measure up. Women have been brainwashed to analyze themselves in a certain way. The media portrays parts of women as advertisements, where as, men are viewed as a whole, making the accepting or rejecting of certain body parts a normal way to scrutinize.
Within the obsessions of dieting, food has become its own separate infatuation among women today.
