The Old Testament illustrates many promises and blessings from the Lord pronounced upon the heads of His chosen people through their continued obedience and observance of Him. This is why many Jews live the way they do today following all their customs and cultures in a strict manner. Throughout their history they have been both very blessed and at the same time laden with many hardships that they as a community have had to accept and overcome. .
Interestingly the history of the Mormons is just as fundamental to the formation of their cosmovision as it is for the Jews. Their history thoroughly influences their current everyday lives. The Mormon's view their own history in a little different manner than what the rest of the world does. In a way they believe that they have two histories, or at least two different time periods of history. What most do not know is that they believe their history actually is the same as the Jew's history. They believe that they are the seed of Abraham, the covenant people of the Lord, the House of Israel. They, along with the rest of Christiandom follow the course of the New Testament, which states that the Jews apostasized and therefore lost their inheritance as the chosen people of God. The Mormons believe that this inheritance was given to them. Because they believe this it affects them like it affects the Jews. Both communities believe that they are the chosen people of God.
The other history, the common view known generally is that the Mormons started as a religious group in 1830 under the hand of Joseph Smith, who had received a divine manifestation. This official restoration of their community was a very important aspect to the Mormons. The Mormons believe that because of these new beginnings they are claim to once again be the chosen people of the Lord entitled to all the blessings that the Jews were once entitled to. Now, the Mormons are the remnants of the House of Israel grafted in to the seed of Abraham.
