The Sexual Animal

It covered a wide variety of topics, introducing many concepts of human sexuality. One of these that I found particularly interesting was the art of attraction. It showed several aspects of what men and women find attractive. In general, women are sought out to have slender waists, perky breasts, and a youthful glow. Men stereotypically are found more attractive with wide shoulders and masculine features. I thought it was interesting that symmetry was also stressed. Members of the community that were more symmetrical, especially in the face, were considered more attractive.
It was interesting to see how many different factors played into attraction. Physical appearance was at the top of the list, but also mentioned were things like how a person carried themselves, how they spoke, body language and so on. Because every one of us is different, there is no clear way of explaining what people find to be attractive. .
I also enjoyed watching in the video when it showed people of different cultures. The way they were attracted to others and how they acted on it often varied from what I experience in the United States. I think it was in Italy where it was pretty normal and accepted for young males to ride around females on their bikes and pick them up. However, the art of the chase and the capture seemed to keep the same thrill form place to place. All the males seem to be attracted to what their culture held as beautiful and showed signs of feeling success when they acted on that attraction.
The talk of attraction brought around the questions of homosexuality and what makes members of the same sex attracted to each other. It seemed that what the heterosexual norms counted as attractive features, the homosexuals accepted as well. It also stirred up questions about if opposites or likes attract. Of course, it all goes back to the individual and their thoughts and feelings.
