IQ

Researchers use IQ similarities to try and estimate ones heritability of IQ. The heritability estimate (a statistical estimate of the degree of inheritance of a given behavior, assessed by the degree of similarity between individuals who vary in their extent of genetic similarity) is found by computing the variation in all the test scores for a given populations and then identifying what portion of the total variance is due to genetic factors or inherited factors. It is found that heredability increases across ones life span. It starts out at about 40% for 4-6 year olds and increases to 80% in older adults.
Researchers have found that environment can have an effect on ones intelligence. I was fount that the best predictor of the IQ of a 4 year old, were the families socioeconomic status and the level of the mothers intelligence. This found that the social class of individuals can effect their IQ. If one comes from a poverty type of life, that means that they probably have less access to computers, books, and maybe even education. If an individual comes from a wealthy background, then they are more likely to have more access to computers, books, and much better education.
