The Division Of Labor

The workers needs were not taken into consideration. The thinking process was taken away from the workers and management was doing the same amount of work as the employee but making more profit. .
Division of Labor is the alienation that workers experience while they are in the workplace. Karl Marx and Fredrick Winslow Taylor took it upon themselves to describe why this had come about. Even thou they had different view points it all comes down to the fact that there is alienation in the workplace and we still see it today. .

The six principles of an "ideal type" bureaucracy are: hierarchy, impersonality, written rules of conduct, specialization, division of labor, and efficiency. Bureaucracy is a type of government, which divides into many principles. The following will briefly describe six of these principles.
Hierarchy is a level of authority, which has many lower levels, and has an organized set of ordered rules. This form of authority can be compared to that of an empire and it's people. It also can be compared to the workplace where the manager would be the king and the workers would be the servants. Workers have to do what the manager tells them to do, with little say in it. Hierarchies also help out in that they maintain indirect control as ultimate decision-making power. .
The second principle of bureaucracy is impersonality this meant that all workers should be given equal treatment. However he also noted that this meant they were treated without affection. "Weber had famous phrase, the "Iron Cage", as a critique of the potentially dehumanizing effects of bureaucracies that locked people into a rigid set of impersonal rules and procedures that are difficult to break as they are seen as ultimately rational and legitimate," (Max Weber).
The third principle was the rules of conduct; this stated that the people were ordered by rules. In order to organize the division of labor, this forces us to organize ourselves.
