Euthanasia is a controversial issue in Australia. there are indeed medical, ethnic and religious concern. many agree that this form of mercy killing is acceptable for those who terminally ill while others strongly opposed its legislation.

Making it the only country in the world to legalise mercy killing. other countries still debate the true meaning of euthanasia and it's legaslation. In 1996 the Northern territory government passed a law allowing for voluntary euthanasia. to qualify the person requesting this had to be: over 18,terminally ill,mentally competent and making the request in write.
Dr Rodney Syme, a urologist at melbourne's austin hospital said he had assisted 3 patient (who were dying) how to commit suicide. he wasn't found guilty by the police after making his action in public,but he issued that he would be prepared to force the issue through the courts if euthanasia wasn't legalised within 10 years.
