This makes their social life centered on their interests and excludes family from this time. The Middle Class in America are closer to their families than the Rich. They are likely to live farther apart, but frequently call and visit one another. The Middle Class see each other on holidays, birthdays, for celebrations and special occasions. They lead a balanced life spending ample time with their families while still taking time to spend with friends and engaging in outside activities. In America the center of the poor person's life is their family. Most of their time is spent either working or relaxing with their family. The lack of money the poor experience causes them to have little money for evenings out on the town or to spend on hobbies. The poor usually live close together allowing them to sustain a "close-knit" relationship. Single mothers head many poor families. This makes the job of parenting harder, but allows for a closer relationship between mother and child. Poor families are united together through their lack of opportunities.
             Politics is a major aspect of American society. America is built on the pretense of "liberty and justice for all", but not all Americans feel as protected by the government as others. Therefore, their involvement in political matters is limited. The rich in America are extraordinarily involved in politics. They contribute huge sums of money to political candidates and stay abreast of political topics. Some of the rich seek office by running for the Senate and the House of Representatives and state governor offices. Some even stir up enough support to run for President of the United States. Modern day America has not had a president that was not affluent. Middle class Americans have a strong interest in politics. They help organize political rallies and contribute somewhat to candidates. They generally have clear political involvements with the running parties.
