Sex And The Media

Children influenced by Sex in the Media.

What is the issue and why is it a social justice issue? .
This issue is children and how the media influences them by sex and violence. Everyday in the United States and all around the world, children are bombarded by the messages and images from the media: messages about how to behave, what choice to make and what to think. Children often try to imitate what they learn from TV, video games, and the Internet. They are more susceptible to the message than adults, because they haven't developed good judgment or the ability to process the information they are given. No one wants their kids to grow up and think that everything that they watched on TV was right, because that is not the type of person that their parents want them to be.
             2. Give a history of the issue including:.
             A. What are the most important people and events in its development?.
The most important people who are affected by this are the children because what they learn when they are growing up reflects how they are when they become an adult. The people who help the media influence the child would have to be mainly the parents. Sometimes other influences such as other adults and teachers also influence the child, but the parent is the one who raises their child. It depends on whether or not the parent raises the child to watch bad things and actually believe them or to watch them and just let them go in one ear and out the other.
             B. Within the last ten years, how was the issue gotten better or worse?.
Within the last ten years, studies have shown that this issue has .
Improved. The survey by the Center for Media and Public Affairs found that sexual material on cable and broadcast television fell by 29 percent and "serious violence- decreased by 17 percent. Sex declined more than violence, but that might have been because there was a lot more sex than violence to begin with.
