We have all heard the story of the ugly duckling as children and we learned how the ugly duck was rejected, until it transformed into a beautiful swan. Perhaps this is why beauty is such an important aspect to us most of our lives. It seems to be ingrained in our subconsice since we are born. Cosmetic companys know this and take full advantage of our fears of not looking as attractive as the next person. It seems that everyone is signing up for a new look of some kind. The largest group who plays a role in this is women between the ages of 19-50 (bringoutyourbest).
All of these women who contribute to these surgerys are helping to increase in the growing rate of body altering procedures performed in America. For example there are nearly 8.5 million surgical & non-surgical operations performed yearly in the U.S.(bringoutyourbest.com). These statistical numbers are proven facts that show no sign of slowing down. It is reported the top five surgical operations consist, of lipoplasty better known as lypo-suction, eyelid surgery, breast augmentation, nose reshaping, and last but not least is face lifts. .
The doctors who perform these operations act as though they care about their patients, but the reality of it is that they just see dollar signs. Instead of steering their patients towards conventional options such as, joining a gym or seeing a nutritionist. They give them the easy option which is surgery. Even though many of these doctors are considered professionals, many of them fail to tell their patients about the health risks of the surgeries. Many patients develop infections, blurred vision, horrible scars, injurgery to nerves and surrounding tissue etc. The body- altering operations are still in their infancy, we are yet to know the long term effects and future harm it may cause to the body. .
Although the group that most people tend to focus on is women it is well documented that a growing number of men are also using plastic surgery.
