There should be no reason that same-sex marriages should be illegal in any state. They are illegal in twenty-nine states including Hawaii. They have passed laws to restrict same-sex marriage. There are a lot of people that think this is wrong. I can't think of any reason that would make someone think that this is fair. There are many reasons that same-sex marriages should not be illegal. In this essay I am going to explore whether same-sex marriages should be legal or illegal. I also am going to bring up the issue of if same-sex marriage is immoral. The last matter I am going to talk about is whether two people of the same sex get married should they be able to adopt a child if they desire.
The fact that same-sex marriage is illegal in twenty-nine states is wrong for many reasons. People should be able to spend the rest of their lives with whom ever thy want. If a person loves someone that is the same gender as himself or herself it must be for a reason. When two people love each other enough to get married, that is very special. Something that precious should be taken away from them. That is their life. If all they want is to get married to each other what is the harm in that. I mean is it really going to affect the lives of anyone else. It should be their decisions and no one should take that away from them. Every heterosexual has the choice to choose whom ever they want to marry, so why shouldn't homosexual people have the same rights.
People think that these same sex marriages are immoral. I personally don't see how. Their argument is that the reason people get married and have sex is to procreate and if two people of the same sex are getting married they defiantly cannot pro-create. John Finnis who is against it said, "Marriage, with its double blessing-procreation and friendship-is a real common good"(322). To me it doesn't have to be a double blessing, it could be the single blessing of companionship.
