Savage Inequalities

 

Louis, is in direr need of help and major reform. .
             Aside from constant sewage backup and tainted water effected the children, .
             the school system is several decades behind your average school in America. .
             Many children at the age of nine have yet to even know how tell time, let .
             alone be up to par on reading and writing skills. Cutbacks and lay off, are .
             the cause large class size and less of needed one on one attention to .
             improve the education of these young people. A community filled with .
             individuals with such a low education, is the foundation for very high crime .
             rate. The children tell horrific stories of rape and brutal murder. .
             (Henslin, 343-46).
             Quite contrary to this atmosphere basically comparable to the uncivilized .
             nature of a third world nation, is the second school observed by the author .
             which is primarily white. Aside from smaller class size, significant .
             increase in the well built structure of the building itself, cleaner .
             sanitary facilities, it is the quality of education is improved probably .
             over 100 percent as compared to the East St. Louis school. Teachers .
             salaries are much higher, advance placement classes are prominent, sports .
             teams receive adequate funding which allows for new uniforms and equipment. .
             All these seemingly necessary aspects of a good education are lacking from .
             the predominately black school as opposed to the predominately white school. .
             (Henslin, 349-51).
             Inequality in the job force is a main reason for poverty among these .
             minority groups. If they are denied application based on their racial or .
             ethnic background, how is it possible to increase the quality of life in .
             these minority communities. The Henslin reading, "Invisible Man", tells of .
             an African American man who slightly changes his personal criteria from .
             Princeton graduate to a sophomore at Tufts University, and he then goes .
             about applying for a job as a waiter. Prior to meeting with the restaurant .
