The Sum of All Roles

.
In between all of the Oberon trouble back in the forest, there is a conflict between the workmen. They are trying to set a play to rehearse at the Duke's wedding day. Peter Quince, the leader of the workmen who are rehearsing, is trying to set up the roles that each of them are going to do. Quince is pretty much organized because, without knowing the other people, has the scroll with their names in hand. "Here is the scroll of every man's name which is thought fit- (1.2.4-5). In between all of those names, there is the character of Nick Bottom. Bottom is given a role which he doesn't like it. Bottom contradicts Quince's ideas and tries to take over for Quince as a leader. "Now , good Peter Quince, call forth your actors by the scroll. And so grow to a point" (1.2.15-16). Obviously Quince isn't very happy about this and is annoyed by it. To began with, Quince is much more than set back person, who is very uncomfortable to be the leader, but he has to because is his job. Bottom, in the other hand, tries to be the leader and wants to do everything. Bottom is bossy and stubborn. "An I may hide my face , let me play Thisbe too" ( 1.2.49). This quote shows that Bottom is very stubborn and wants to contradicts Quince's ideas or commands. Quince responds: " You can play no part but Pyramus" (1.2.81). As a result, Bottom finally gives up and obeys Quince commands . "Well, I will under take it- (1.2.86). .
Quince and Bottom have different thoughts, but at the same time they have a similar goal; that is to entertain people by showing off their skills, which they are poor, to the people. Quince do certainly live up to his role as a leader and a coordinator of the rehearsal. "And here's a marvels convenient place for our rehearsal- (3.1.2). He's trying to do everything possible. He wants it to be perfect, but also needs a feedback from his co-workers. He knows who is that person, Bottom. Bottom is also living up to his role as bossy because he wants to help in everything he can in order to be a perfect job.
