Discuss how prejudice and discrimination can form a vicious cycle. What do you think might be some effective ways of attempting to improve contemporary American race relations? .
Prejudices and discrimination form a cycle by aiding each other. When prejudices are voiced that become the expected truth of the minority group in question. Therefore in turn, that particular group may be discriminated upon because of what is expected of them. So the group seeing that there is little offered because little is expected tends to fall into this cycle of inferiority. For instance, there are prejudices related to promoting young adults for higher-level positions. Some top-level executives feel that they are not dependable and stable which leads to discriminating against them. In turn, that person may feel that there is no need to try to excel because they have been stereotyped. .
First of all we need to acknowledge the prejudices and discrimination within this country. No one wants to do that on a national level. That is the itch that no one on the political level wants to dig deep into. We've scratched the surface a few times sure. Mostly it's done independently within minority groups. There needs to be reparations for minority groups. There is a major gap on the success curve in relation to minorities in this country. The system needs to be revamped, the areas which have the families earning the most, should not be the only ones allowed the best public school education. I feel this is where it needs to start. Teach that child at the very beginning that you value him/her by offering them the best possible free education. That includes not making them feel undervalued by placing them in unsafe schools with materials that are not current and using antiquated equipment. While one county over the kids have the best and newest of aids to provide them with top quality education. There should be an across the board requirement for a standard system.
