This was a major mistake. Richard and two of his friends have to go through many obstacles to reach the beach: enduring train rides, swimming in the ocean for miles, and getting past the farmers who guard the beach. The community is upset the trio made it because no more members are allowed. But, the community accepts Richard and his friends. After this comes many sensual experiences for Richard, and he truly enjoys himself. Then, when all is well, the head of the community has to make a trip to the mainland for rice and pushes Richard to accompany her. At the mainland, the head of the community finds out about the copy of the map and the keeper's intentions to pursue the paradise. She blackmails Richard into sleeping with her for her silence. Next, they go back to the beach and find that the keepers of the copy of the map have made it to the farmers. The community turns against Richard and he is forced to make sure that the keepers retreat back. These dark consequences are a result of Richard's knowledge of the beach, which gave him power, which led to corruption.
             Power Corrupts Seen Through the Farmers and Leaders.
             The theory that power corrupts is also seen through the farmers and leaders in the movie "The Beach". First, farmers are often associated with basic, ancient, and genuine principles. This is where the movie turns you in another direction. Farmers incorporate these principles into the protection and preservation of their soil. These farmers protect their possession of the beach to the degree of pathological action. For instance, the farmers are so angry that the keepers of the copy of the map made it to the beach that they brutally murder all of them (five people). The farmers seemed so innocent, but turned out so scandalous all because of their power of possession. Also, the leader of the community uses blackmail for her silence. The leader wants .
             to keep her beach a secret so badly that she deceives and blackmails.
