A topic that I fell very strongly about is how in the field of architecture, blacks are strongly under represented. If you go to an architectural firm you may see one or two black faces, If any. This is probably due to the commitment that needs to be put forth from our young black people. In our society we are not raised to become doctors and lawyers but we are taught to be athletic rather than to be smart among your peers whereas in other societies. If your one of the smartest you are looked up to, in a sense. I believe strongly also this is a problem due to parenting inside the household. Every child has a mind and can think. So parenting needs to be enforced by helping to develop your child mental growth. Getting back to the subject of why there are so few black architects is because it is a hard field to establish recognition as a talented artist. Also because society really hasn't put forth the effort to express to young black s the famous African-American architects. Due to the extreme fact minorities are so under represented there are much greater entry level positions then in some other professions for minorities. I strongly fell the need to better myself in the field as a minority so that the people behind me will follow the same path. .
.
Many minorities find it hard to display enough character to break the common mold of becoming dedicated to something they love besides an athletic event. For this some do and have to take heavy criticism from their peers for which they shouldn't have to. Minorities have some of the most creative ideas that have been instilled in us, because like some minorities you come from hardships. So many dream and envision great and wonderful things. The profession also takes many years to hone yours skills as well as taking a lot of criticism and redoing your work and much of the minority community doesn't take criticism very well. As well as being in a mainly white environment with white colleagues.
