Eight Rules

As the days go by the children are still sleeping out in the open. The smallest children start to have nightmares and scream in their sleep. Percival, one of the smallest children gets so scared that he starts to see things, he claims that there are beasties and snake things that are trying to get him. Ralph, the leader, brings this to attention to Jack. They decide that the problem is that they don't feel safe, so they decide to build huts and try to make them feel more at home. Jack's choir is picked to be hunters, they made spears out of wood to hunt and protect them from the beasties and snakes.
Another rule, or building block would be the fourth one. The need of esteem. Throughout the first five chapters, Jack wants and gets the approval and respect from the other children by acting like a bigger brother, saying that he will hunt down the beastie and kill it. He even says that he will get them meat, which he does. He tells the little ones what they want to hear. .
Ralph has the power and the little ones look up to him for that. He often contradicts what Jack does, because Ralph is the leader, and also gains respect from the children. .
The fifth and sixth building blocks are two important basics. The fifth one being to understand your surroundings and to explore them. In the novel Lord of the Flies, Jack, Simon, and Ralph go to explore the island they are stranded on to see if there are any other inhabitants on the island. They climb a mountain and are able to see the entire island and decide that there is no other people with them. They explored so that they could get a better understanding of where the were and what it looked like. In doing this they find out that there are pigs, another food source. The sixth building block, has to do with being in order, or being under control. Right away the children pick a leader, Ralph. They have meetings whenever the need to talk about something and they establish a few rules and guidelines for them to follow.
