Brain Stem And Autism

This author plans to go to the library located on the UMASS campus and looking up autism and its relationship to the brain stem, also looking at the symptoms of autism as a whole as well as individually. A general review of the literature with critical evaluation and interpretation by the author should give the reader a clearer picture of where to put the blame (CHOOSE OF WORD?) autism. .
             FINDINGS.
Edwards and Bristol (1991) identified autism as characterized by an inability to communicate and interact with other people and by repetitive behaviors or interests. Autism is usually obvious by the age of three, having most autistic children be mentally retarded as well as autistic, although symptoms may not start until the age of two or three. .
(You mention three twice in the same sentence, repetitive). Autism occurs three to four times more often in males than in females. Symptoms of autism include speech or language delays, sometimes speech not developing at all. Lack of interest in peers or adult interactions as well as a feeling that the child is deaf or visual impairment (VISUALLY IMPAIRED) is an early sign of autism (DELETE). Hyperactivity or hypo activities are on a broad spectrum that a child can be perceived on. Severe feeding or difficulties sleeping and severe uncontrollable temper tantrums are also significant. Stereotypes that autistic individuals are known for will also be noticeable; these include hand flapping, rocking, and finger flicking. Sometimes autistic individuals have fascinations with certain parts of things like toys or grow an attachment to an unusual object like a sort of compulsion that they are obsessed with (Edwards & Bristol, 1991). (ATTACHED TO THE POINT OF OBSESSION OR COMPULSION).
These behaviors can be characterized in a variety of ways and can be more or less severe in each individual. There are many treatment options AVAILABLE for individuals with autism but AT PRESENT there is no cure, although there is controversy over which treatments are beneficial.
