Fast Food

The majority of customers were black and white teenagers that were not obese like the adults inside the restaurant. People hastily devoured their food, dipping their burgers, fries, and chicken nuggets into multiple condiments on the table. Tables were occupied for no longer than 15 minutes. I watched people recline and express how full their stomachs were. McDonald's was not a pleasant environment to relax in after the meal is finished because all you see is pictures of food around the entire restaurant. It was also interesting to watch people reluctantly eat that that last French fry when it was apparent that they were completely full. All of my peers tell me how they love to eat McDonald's yet simultaneously regret having done so after finishing the meal. They express feelings of guilt, with phrases such as, "Ugh! I feel so fat" or "my stomach hurts I have to use the bathroom." It is an interesting occurrence that most people feel ill (psychologically or physiologically) after fast-food consumption but continue to eat it anyway. A few points must be addressed because they are important social, political, and cultural symbols of America and its institutions. McDonald's is a fast-food chain restaurant that is unquestionably linked with the changing labor relations, food production, and public health costs that are occurring in America and across the globe.
"Pull open the glass door, feel the rush of cool air, walk in, get on line, study the backlit color photographs above the counter, place your order, hand over a few dollars, watch teenagers in uniforms pushing various buttons, and moments later take hold of a plastic tray full of food wrapped in colored paper and cardboard." The fast food industry employs more teenagers than any other industry in America. Approximately two-thirds of fast food employees are under the age of twenty. This industry is reliant upon part-time, de-skilled workers who are willing to accept low wages to maximize profits.
