Hi my name's Trent and I"m up here this morning to talk to you about an AFS organised exchange in which I"m heading off to Brazil next year.
I first heard about this programme earlier in the year when a girl that had been to America last year came to this assembly and told us about her time in America and how we could do something similar to what she did. I thought, oh yeah this sounds cool, so I sent my application form away and waited for the news. A couple of weeks later I received a letter in the mail saying that I had been accepted to go through a selection process. I was successful in my bid to participate in this exchange programme and had to choose a country to be my home for next year. .
You"re probably wondering why I chose Brazil as my destination, but from all the sites you associate with Brazil, It's a place with heaps of sunshine and heaps of hot women in small bikinis. But nah that's not the only reason I chose the country that I did, I wanted to experience a totally different culture and lifestyle in comparison to my usual routine life in New Zealand.
Although when you hear that somebody is going to Brazil for a year, the first thing you think about is a huge holiday with the beach and the girls, its not as laid back as that. I have to attend school as in a normal 7th form year except there's most likely going to be different subjects available so it shouldn't be too bad.
Since being selected, I've attended a camp involving students that have come over to New Zealand this year through AFS as well as some others; like me, who are going overseas next year. At this camp I met some really cool people from all parts of the world, some of who I still keep in touch with. .
I"m really looking forward to going on this once in a lifetime experience and I"d like to thank AFS for this awesome opportunity.
Thank you .
