It is also is one of the five permanent members of NATO and of Commonwealth the country.
             In 43 AD to century 400, Romans were confined effectively to the lowland areas of England. Many signs of the four centuries of occupation can still be seen today. Some of these include the roadway of London, a resort in Bath, away in Hadrians and other archaeological remains, and most of all Christianity remained in Beitain even after the Roman withdrawal. The middle ages saw the city of London grow intointo a great community , however the black plague began in 1348. It wiped out almost half of the 6,000,000 inhabitants. William the Conquerer took charge of London in 1066.
