Nationalism Fostered By Optimism

At the turn of the twentieth century, optimism fostered a greater sense of nationalism in both European and non-European countries in three ways, the development of arts, sports, and press, medical and scientific advances, and economic improvement. Although there were many other contributing factors to the optimism, which fostered nationalism, these are the three main causes. All three were needed to promote the great optimism that was held. .
The first way in which optimism fostered nationalism at the turn of the century was the development of arts and science. At the turn of the century, the French Petit Parisien and the English Daily Mail printed nearly a million copies a day. In the United States, citizens read New York World and New York Journal. Sports like cricket in the United States, soccer in Europe and cricket in India began to draw large fans. Movie stars like Charlie Chaplan and Rudolph Valentino became famous. All these advancements especially in sports and reading began to unite people behind their teams or press. Nationalism played a large part in even the Olympics.
Medical advancements and scientific discoveries might have played the biggest role in optimism fostering nationalism. With new medical advancements like Sigmon Freud and psychotherapy people begin to believe that they could live longer and therefore were more hopeful and supportive of their nation so that they could develop doctors. With every new discovery, every nation wanted to be better than the rest. If one control developed something, another country's people would rally behind it so that their country got the praise of being the founder of the next invention. Both medical and scientific advancements helped develop optimism, which lead to nationalism.
The final way that optimism fostered nationalism was the economic improvement at the turn of the twentieth century. Many big investors become very powerful and saved the economy several times.
