Also the survey let me find out how much money passengers would be wiling to pay to receive a massage. Another insight from the survey led me to know how much a massage will decrease their stress level. These results helped me to determine some of my target customers.
My second research method was the internet. The internet led me to the Long Island Railroad website, which told me how many trains run daily and how many passengers ride those trains. It also gave a brief history of how the Long Island Railroad begun.
My third method of research was the library. I used the Lifestyle Market Analyst 2002 reference book to find out more about my target customers and their daily activities and hobbies. This also let me understand their lifestyles as to where they live and why the take the train.
The last research method I used was personal research. I myself went to Penn Station to see if there was any competition. I went to every part of Penn Station and came to the conclusion that there is nothing that offers massages. I also found out what kinds of places are actually located in Penn Station.
Limitations:.
When the survey was conducted only 30 people were surveyed, because of time restrictions. If I had more time I would have surveyed about 70 more people to make it an equal hundred to get more accurate results.
Collected Data:.
The survey was given to thirty people. 95% of the people were interested in having a massage on the Long Island Railroad. 50% of these people were males and the other 50% were females. 70% of the people live in the suburbs, 80% of the people were corporately employed and 75% of them earn a family income between $50- 80,000 per year. About 75% take the Long Island Railroad 5-7 days per week and 65% are stressed out from work related issues. Of the 95% that said they would enjoy a massage, 97% said it would decrease their tension and stress levels. 70% surveyed said they would receive a massage 3-5 times per week and 90% said they would pay between $11-20 per massage.
