John F. Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on May 29, 1917. His grandfather was an immigrant from Ireland he arrived in America in 1849. He was part of a huge wave of Irish immigrants coming to America because of poverty and disease in Ireland. His mother also was from Ireland. They met on the voyage to America and later got married. .
They had a son, which would later be the father of John F. Kennedy. His father was very determined to be successful and make money, but being Irish made it very difficult to get into good colleges. This made him more determined to succeed. He graduated from Harvard University and became the youngest bank president in America. He later married Rose Fitzgerald daughter of a well-known politician. .
Later John F. Kennedy was born. Since his father was a very determined and a successful person. He always wanted his children to win no matter what they were doing, whether it is sports, school, or politics. This was difficult for John because he was born with a weak back and had many sicknesses as a childhood. .
He fought through it and eventually attended Princeton University but again his sickness caught up with him and he had to leave before finishing the semester. He stayed in a Boston hospital for two months. That year he stayed recuperating and working on a ranch in Arizona. Later he started attending Harvard University. He impressed many of his professors with his writing and analytical abilities. .
World War II was starting while John was in college. He wanted to enlist but the army and the navy turned him down because of his history of poor health. Over the summer of that year John got healthier and tried to enroll again. This time the U.S. Navy accepted him.
