Infants Need More Than Just Food , Shelter, And Clothing

 

Children at this stage of development are significantly affected by the verbal environment words spoken, silences, and how much the significant adult says, how they speak, to whom they talk, and how well they listen indicates to the child his or her self worth. Since the verbal environment has such a huge impact on the child self worth, the young child needs a positive verbal environment for his/her healthy development. In addition, a positive verbal environment provides the child with messages that he/she is important while the child's self-perceptions of competences, worth and self-awareness increase. .
             Children in early childhood also need to learn self-control. The caregiver/parent helps the child learn self-control by setting boundaries and rules along with setting limitation of parental behaviors through this the child begins to learn social expectations. Lastly the young child needs the caregiver/parent to provide socialization and opportunities to play with other children. Play is important to the child's social development, as well as in the development of sensory motor skills, pretend play, and symbolic play, which, all assist the child in developing social skills and competencies. Playmates and friendships become significant features of the social context of language. They provide resources different but complimentary to those provided by the family. For example friendships shape the social skills of talking, gaining entry into group activities " ((Germain, C. B. & Bloom, M., 1999). .
             School age child: Again the child at this stage also needs a positive verbal environment provided by teachers and other significant people in their life. Teachers" verbalizations are a big factor as an indication of whether children see themselves as worthy and competent or the opposite. At this stage the child needs their caregiver/parent to help them become independent by encouraging and providing situations that the child can experience safely.
