Concrete Sequential Teacher

We know that people are not all alike. We each see the things in a way that makes the most sense to each of us as individuals. Since we are not basically alike, when we approach a learning task or situation, we do not all benefit from the same approach. Each individual has his or her own unique learning strengths and weaknesses. People have individual differences that show different styles of thinking and different methods of representing information. Using the "Gregorc Style Delineator" I have discovered that I am a concrete-sequential learner. A concrete person prefers real objects, and clear limits, and a sequential person prefers organized information, logic, and order. As a result a concrete-sequential person is a person that favors a step-by-step, clearly limited, orderly approach to learning and organizing information, which describes me perfectly.
Since I am a concrete-sequential person, as a teacher, everything in my classroom will be as orderly as possible. I will want everything I intend to teach to have exact directions with a chronological, step-by-step, sequential order. I know that I will rely on the teacher directed, traditional, pattern of teaching. This will include prepared lesson plans that will result in an orderly classroom, project and homework due dates that will not be changed without good cause, and a grading system that serves as a reward when something is done well. I will want time to be a virtue in my classroom. There will be structured time limits for all activities and exercises that students participate in. .
There are children whose perception is concrete and think, "it is what it is" while the abstract child's perception seems to be, "things are not always as they seem". The ordering of the information taken in can be prepared sequentially, by following directions, or randomly by just completing the task. Knowing that I am both a concrete and sequential person a lot of facts will be tied into my teaching strategies along with information being prepared sequentially.
