Glance Into The Life Of Louise Bryant

Louise Bryant lived a life most can only imagine. It was filled with all kinds of joyous times and tragic heartbreaks. Louise Bryant would receive little acclaim for her writing and her revolutionary points of view on marriage and a women's place in the world. She choose to remain independent and loyal to her beliefs. Unfortunately, much of what is heard about her is focused on her relationship with Jack Reed. The importance of him in her life shouldn't be down played but they do not give a full portrayal of who she was. There is much more to this complicated women. .
Louise Bryant was born Anna Louise Mohan on December 5, 1885 in San Francisco, CA. Her father, though his interaction in her life was brief, had a tremendous impact on her and her relationships with men. Hugh Mohan was an ambitious journalist with a particular interest in politics. By the time Louise was born he was working between several San Francisco newspapers without a steady employer or steady income. .
Shortly after Louise's birth the family, which was now comprised of three children including Barbara born in 1880 and Louis who was born in 1882, moved to Reno, Nevada where her father found work on newspapers in surrounding cities. The move to Reno had a considerable effect on Louise's father, once there he began to drink heavily. His drinking grew so increasingly problematic that by the time August of 1889 rolled around Louise's mother had filed for divorce and Louise would never see her father again. Louise certainly knew about her fathers drinking problem, but it is unclear whether she was ever told the truth about her parents divorce and her fathers abandonment. It is possible, that much as she did in her own life, she simply invented her fathers death. In later writings she wrote that he had died when she was four, the same time her parents were officially divorced and her father was gone for good.
