While the story itself is not true, a lot of the subplots and subtleties are very historically accurate. The battle sequences, special effects, and set decoration is absolutely breathtaking. Won the Acadamy Award for sound, costume design, visual effects, actor, and picture. Nominated for art direction/set decoration, cinematography, editing, original score, original screenplay, director, and supporting actor.
Hannibal is the third story of the Hannibal Lecter series begins in Florence, Italy where Hannibal has found refuge after escaping authorities in America. His identity is discovered by a police officer that turns over his whereabouts to, and is rewarded by, Mason Verger who is a previous patient and victim of Lecter. Meanwhile, the new and improved Agent Starling is hot on his trail. In the end, Sterling finally tracks down Lecter and eventually brings his character to justice. Although this movie did not win any awards for picture, in my opinion the film was one of great quality and I thoroughly enjoyed it. .
The first scene that I chose from Gladiator takes place early on in the movie. The clip is very short but yet encompasses some of Scott's best work as a director. Maximus has just gone back to his home after escaping death and looks up towards the entrance of his house and sees his wife and child hanging from a tree. Maximus had just escaped death and ran away from it only to run right into his dead family in what he thought was a place of comfort and safety. In the scene, Maximus sees this and drops to his knees and passes out. Along comes a group of slaves that pick up Maximus and he begins a quote on quote dream, which actually a flashback of old times when he is remembering his family. The scene is very quick and short and uses a lot of quick cutting to help show a passage of time. In the other movie, I examined a scene almost completely similar except for in plot.
