            The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has released in 1998 a guidelines proving that 97 million American adults have weight problems. Researchers have said either 55% of americans are indeed obese or partially overweight. So what does it mean to be fat? Based on BMI measurement or body mass index in order to be considered partially obese someone has to be at least 20% more than the ideal weight 2. For example a male student like me 5"5 weighted 160 pounds, I would be considered medically overweight because ideally I should weight only 136 pounds for my age. .
             We are more likely to see obese people that are chronically ill other than people who excersice everyday. Many studies conducted by the NIH have said that excess would likely to develop an illnesses, illness like thickening of blood vessels in the heart, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. National Institutes of Health declares about $100 billion dollars are spent yearly trying to lessen these obesity related diseases. In addition, obesity is the 2nd largest cause of death behind smoking, it contributes to as many as 300,000 deaths per year.
