Eveline

In the world of literature there are many complex characters, all that face difficult issues and decisions. Eveline's character was one of the most complex, and oddest I've ever read. I understand that the story took place in a different era, but I felt Eveline should have been stronger and more in control of her life. However the era being Eveline's age (20+) you were already considered an old woman. I guess one word that I can use describe Eveline would be devotion. Her Devotion to her family was what drove here to stay with her family in the end. Another word would be hardworking, which seem to have been her nature throughout the book. .
Eveline's devotion to her family really impressed me. She was so true to making sure everything at home was right, even though most of the time she did it out of fear that her father might hit her. For example in the story her father gave her money to go to the market and buy Sunday dinner, even if it was intentionally done she would go and do it and fast as she could. Eveline would return to home late still having important duties to finish up, but again that was her nature, also making that promise to her mother she couldn't break.
Another point I brought up in my introduction was that eveline was hardworking. Much like her devotion she put 110% into a lot of what she did at home. She had to be a mother to her little brothers making sure they went to school on the regular and got their meals regularly as well. Eveline worked hard and was unappreciated by many of the people around her.
Eveline's character was very interesting to me due to the fact that she did was she felt was right. She followed her heart by keeping the promise she made to her mother. Though the decision of leaving behind her unappreciated life sounded tempting to her, she ultimately realized that was all she had left. In my opinion eveline was a flat character, she was tempted but stayed true to her promise, she never seemed to give any intention of leaving with frank.
