Racial injustice has been a problem for African-Americans ever since we were bussed to the new world. We have always had to accept unjust treatment and just accept whatever happened to us. Racial justice has been one of the main things that have been a problem in the African-American community for quite some time. For example, the murder of Emmit Till was a classic case of racial injustice. Another tragic case was the murder of Medgar Evers both were black, and there were no convictions of murder in either case.(i.e. I know in the case of Medgar Evers his killer was sentenced to life after forty years, but if you look at it an old man has already lived his life and is more or less waiting to die). In the new millennium we are still faced with the same type of injustice. For example the New York police department shot an unarmed black man over forty times, and then found out later that he was just reaching for his wallet. The sad part is the police officers were not fired they were just reassigned to a desk. I guess they figured putting them behind a desk was the justified punishment for killing an African-American. An example from my personal life comes in the form of a car search. While traveling back to school the Louisiana State Police pulled me over searched my car and told me, when he did not find anything, that he thought he smelled something funny in my car. I knew that I had nothing to hide and that there was nothing illegal in the car, but I did not have a choice. Well I did have the choice of telling no, but that could have led to myself and a pissed off officer alone on a dark highway without anyone in sight, and that situation would put me in an awkward position. My story ends a little better, because at least they put my car's interior back together. A similar incident happened to Mr. Altra Hall, my father. The Louisiana State Police stopped him, cuffed him, and made him sit on the pavement until their three-hour search was finished.
