As a future teacher, you envision how you will set-up your classroom. Things like will it be functional for both the students and teacher? Is the classroom organized in a way that promotes the students education in a creative sense? Have I used the classroom space wisely? Are the centers in the classroom organized to promote certain areas of education? Does the classroom provide a positive learning environment for the students and myself? Are my lessons organized in a way the provides the students with enough information so they understand the task at hand? Have I made my lessons interesting and have I provide visual manipulative for the students? All these questions and many more come to mind when I think of how my classroom should be set-up.
First I would start with the set-up of the physical appearance of the classroom. I would like my classroom to bright and cheerful. I would use a lot of color for the bulletin boards and walls. I believe a bright classroom creates a positive atmosphere. I would have the students creates things and ideas they would like to see in their classroom. Thus promoting a child-centered room, it would reflect the ideas of the students. Having the students involved in the process of setting up the class makes them feel like it is also their area and thus reflecting in the student a responsibility in keeping maintain. The sense of ownership and pride is given to the students in the process of involving them.
Next, I would work on organizing the work and play centers so that they provide a well rounded learning environment. I would like to incorporate a science center, a reading area, play area, and art center. With the science center, I would like it to serve to be a fun hand-on area but also serve as a educational manipulative for science projects. The reading area would be multi-functional area the would provide a comfortable place for .
students to read silently.
