Comprehensive stress management program for Misty a twenty two year old college senior. Misty was asked to make a three lists the first list consisted of everything that was important to her now, the second list contained everything that would be important two years from now, and final list was resulted with having only six months to live. In results we found that she was most concerned with her school social events, and family life. Misty stressed in all of her lists that these issues were what she found most important in life.
When talking with Misty about school I found out that her grades were a constant concern and that graduating on time was a very strong concern of hers. She also stressed a strong concern for her life out of school with her friends and family and that making time for the people she cared for while balancing school and a job was extremely hard for her. She stated that she had many changes in her life over the previous year that made focusing on what she found was very important to her very hard.
As a result of the discussion with Misty she was then administered an asses yourself student stress scale, which is and adaptation of Holmes and Rahel`s life event scale. The results were over the maximum limit of three hundred, which meant that the level of stress that Misty has in her life could, or will lead to serious health problems if not dealt with correctly. .
In a discussion with Misty we talked about a place that she last felt very relaxed at an then made an autogenic relaxation technique for her placing her in her last place of relation, which was laying on her raft in her pool, with the sun beating down on her.
I asked misty to close her eyes focusing on her breathing taking three very deep breaths I then asked her to place herself on her raft in her pool concentrating only on how warm the sun made her feel on her face. Then taking three more deep I asked Misty to feel the sun working its way down her body making her neck and shoulders nice and warm .
