During nine months out of the year, millions of children worldwide go to school every day and learn new and important information. These children sit in a classroom and actively listen and participate to different ideas and adventures that challenge them. Some day, these millions of children will be taking on the world and will become our leaders. They will lead us in important decisions, or save our lives when we need them the most. Perhaps then someone will ask them why they did it, and why they decided to become what they are. The response could be about someone that influenced them many years earlier. Maybe this person was their educator, a person who influenced their life and dedicated his or her life to helping these children grow and learn. .
As I become closer to choosing my major in college, I examine the possibilities of becoming a teacher. However, I also look at the cost of living and needless to say, I"m still puzzled as to why teachers are still making considerably less money than other careers. Many years ago, it usually was the woman's job to become the teacher. Males went into careers that involved more physical work. However, times have changed and now women as well as men are going into careers that pay a high amount of money and will not have to worry about not making enough. Yet, many men and women are still venturing into teaching. .
Usually, these people do not do it for the salary. In Iowa, the starting wage is around a mere $20,000. The majority of starting teachers are starting to pay off four years of college, and financial worries are floating through their minds. Yet, these people are glowing with anticipation of the joy they are about to see watching children grow and be inspired through their teaching. I have talked with many teachers over the past few years and have found out that part of the reason they like teaching is because of the non-monetary rewards.
