When The Catcher in the Rye first came out, it was banned in all schools. The Catcher in the Rye was the worst book for schools because of its foul language, the sexual content and alcoholism. All of these played a role in banning the book from schools. Now, it is allowed back in to all schools.
Holden uses foul language in the novel, which influences young adults. Holden's attitude towards different things such as plays and shows. " before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel ." Also Holden's attitude towards others " for awhile, and kept calling him a moron sonuvabitch." Also when Holden got into an argument with Stradlater and said, "you don't even know if her first name is Jane or Jean ya goddam moron!" Holden also has a bad attitude towards sexual intercourse.
The way Holden talks about sexual intercourse in the novel gives people ideas. Holden talks about his double date with Stradlater and the moves Holden saw Stradlater do just to have sexual intercourse. All Stradlater talks about is sex. Holden gets a prostitute for himself, and he is only sixteen years old. But Holden does not do anything with her because he doesn't feel right about it. He tries to escape from his problems by drinking alcohol.
Holden likes the alcohol because it makes him feel good, and it's a way for him to forget about how depressed he is. He drank everywhere he went, even the train when he was going places. During one of his journeys on the train he met a women, which happened to be one of the parents of a boy in Holden's school. He was talking to the women and asked her if she would care to join him for a drink ""Would you care for a cocktail?"". Holden was also under age, but it did not stop him from going to Ernie's that is a Disco Bar "I ordered a Scotch and soda, which is my favorite drink -.
The Catcher in the Rye was one of the most disturbing books. It has a lot of mature content and not for all types of readers.
