Campus Racism 101 was written by Nikki Giovanni, a professor at Virginia Tech. Giovanni tells black students how to succeed at predominantly white colleges. I think that Giovanni is correct on a lot of aspects but at the same time I feel like this essay is a little bit outdated.
Today, campuses are filled with many different kinds and types of people from many countries and in many different phases of their lives. Most of the major universities are starting to have equal numbers of races besides white. Yes, there are still schools around the country that have a majority of white students, but a lot has changed throughout the years and most schools are focusing on equality and a good education to everyone. I believe that back in the day it might not of been easy for black students to get into college, but I think today that its equally hard for all students to get into college. Getting into college takes a lot of determination and hard work not matter who or what you are. I thought that Giovanni's comments were pretty funny and creative and I found that the reading was very interesting to get someone's perspective and to be able to say my perspective on the whole situation.
This is what I have gotten from and thought about after reading Nikki Giovanni's Campus Racism 101.
