             The diagnosis criteria for autism disorder include a total of six or more items from lists one, two and three. This must include two items from list one and at least one each from list tow and three.
             List one is qualitive impairment in social interacting as brought on by two of the following: Marked impairment in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye to eye contact, facial expressions, body posture and gestures. Second would be failure to develop peer realationships. Thirs is lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interests or achievements with other people. Last is lack of social or emotional reciprocity.
             List two deals with qualitative impairments in communication as manifested by any of the following things. First is a delay in, or total lack of development of spoken language. Second is impairment in the ability to initiate or sustain a conversation with others. The next factor would be sterotyped and repetitive use of language or indiosyncratic language. The last factor would be a lack of varied, spontaneous make believe play or social imatative play appropriate to developmental level.
             List three deals with restricted repetitive and stereotyped paterns of behavior, interests and activities brought on by two of the following factors. The first factor is encompassing preoccupation with one or more stereotyped and restricted patterns of interests that are abnormal in either intensity or focus. The nexy factor is apparently inflexible adherence to specific, nonfunctional routines or rituals. Another factor is stereotyped and repetitive motor mannerisms. The last factor is persistant preoccupation with parts of objects. All of these factors should be onset by the age of three.
             Doctors can run a couple different tests to try and check for autism. They can test the hearin by doing various tests such as an audio gram and a typonogram.
