Employment Relations is defined as the relationship between the management and the employees of an organization. Everyone needs to work and find jobs to make a living. .
Using the GUM Tripartite model, a very important influence on how companies were to work to any environmental changes. A change in the environment will cause changes in the nature of relationships between employer/management and employees. In this assignment, I have decided to consider 2 environmental factors, namely, Technology, Social/Demographic. .
Firstly, Technology. Technology has changed the way we have lived our lives tremendously, and it is only natural that it will also change the way we work and our relationships with our bosses. The introduction of the internet, electronic mails, have drastically changed the lives of people and this includes the working environment and employment relations.
Secondly, Social/Demographical factors are always changing, for example our wants and needs. As we grow older, we have different perspectives in the kind of life we want to lead, and our needs and wants also changes when we start a family, etc. For example, more women are rejoining the workforce after marriage or after giving birth to children, and more retirees are coming out of retirement.
Homeworking.
Due to technological advancement, people are now able to work from home. At present there are an estimated 2 million people in the U.K. working at or from home.( Tan Chwee Huat, Derek Torrington). With the use of the internet, electronic mails, people will be able to communicate with their bosses from home using the computer which is hooked up to the internet. Usually, these people are recruited for particular projects and are paid an hourly wage.
