As to her identity that is also common when going through these stages. Little kids are often trying to find themselves when they are going into adolescence. For example in the part where she is a giant in the room full of doors she wonders if she has changed overnight. She thought that she had changed into a girl by the name of Mabel. Mabel was much less bright than Alice was so when Alice tried to recite what she had been taught and forgot she thought that she changed into Mabel. Alice's main problem with changing into Mabel was that she was not as well off as Mabel. This shows Alice's childish side because her reasoning for this is that she will not get as much being poor. .
When Alice falls into her ocean of tears she meets a mouse who is also swimming in it. Alice shows how she has not developed her common sense yet when she starts talking to the mouse about her cat. This offended the mouse so Alice changed the topic. Still having no clue she starts to talk about her dog who kills rats. This bothers the mouse enough to swim away from her to shore. Showing sympathy she apologizes to the mouse and he agrees to tell her why he has a fear of cats. While telling Alice he realizes that she is not even paying attention to his story. Her attention span is also of that of a child. .
Alice starts to slowly mature as the story progresses, but this does not mean that she has all her wits to her yet. During the Caucus race everyone agrees that there will be prizes. Alice is forced to give everyone a prize so she gives them each a piece of candy. When it is Alice's turn to get a prize she is given something that she already had. Even though she thought the whole process was absurd she still got stiffed. This shows that she is still in the adolescent stage and can be taken advantage of easily. .
When Alice gets stuck in the house because she grows too large to fit out the door she is caught by the rabbit who orders his servants to try to force her out.
