Minor Characters - Joseph Asagai, is African and is Beneatha's best friend and admirer. He supports Beneatha's ambition to become a doctor. He brings her things from Africa that makes her have some feelings for him; he also wants her to go with him to visit his homeland.
George Murchison, is Beneatha's boyfriend, he is wealthy and educated. He is an academic show-off, and disapproves of other blacks. He is arrogant in his relationship to Beneatha.
Mrs. Johnson is the Younger's neighbor. She is enthusiastic about everything in life.
Mr. Karl Lindner gives the Younger's a hard time. He is a representative of the Clybourne Park Association, and gives them threats, which makes them think twice about staying in the neighborhood.
Plot - Lena Younger receives the check of $10,000 from life insurance. The story is mostly about the decision and plans about how to use the check. Everyone in the family wants to use the check for their own benefit, but Lena decides to use half of the check to get a house for the family, which happens to be located in an all white neighborhood. Walter disagrees with her idea about moving into the house, because he wants to use the money to open his own business. He also doesn't want to move into the house because of the threats that the family receives from Mr. Lindner and the other whites from the neighborhood. The mother proceeds with her decision to move into the house, regardless of the threats and thoughts of the other neighbors. .
When Walter knew of his mother's actions, he was very angry. But, Walter received the other half of the money, which was given to him by his mother, who asked him to put a fraction of it into an account to be used for Beneata's education.
