All throughout time this world has seen many battles against the forces of good and evil. These battles are caused by the greediness of man, greed for power, wealth, love or maybe just greed to have everything their heart desires. In the Trilogy The Lord of the Rings there is that basic theme of good versus evil. The corrupted Sauron and Saruman try to take over all of middle earth, and the heroic fellowship try to stop them to make the world at peace once more. In The Count of Monte Cristo Fernand betrays his best friend Dantes because he was jealous of the life Dantes had. Later on in the novel Dantes takes revenge on his former friend Fernand. In any case it's always the good that triumphs over the evil.
One becomes evil when they give into certain temptations that corrupts and warps the mind. This corrupt way of thinking makes it alright in the person's head to cause destruction and turmoil to get the things they desire such as power. Many times though its not only power that defects the mind, evil can be acquired through another person. .
"A major independent enemy among evil forces is the magician Saruman. The Valar sent him along with other Istari (or Wizards) to check the growing power of Sauron in Middle-earth. And so Saruman the White started fighting against the Dark Lord. For this purpose, he has long studied the arts of the enemy himself, which reveals a fatal mistake. As a matter of fact, the knowledge that the wizard acquires gradually inflames his pride to the point that he forsakes the good cause that he was originally defending "(Degallier, 12). .
It seems that even good people have evil in them, what makes them strong or not is the ability to block out those feelings and do what is right. Sauron and Saruman were not able to keep their evil inside of them. "They are tyrants who seek to dominate everything and everyone; their urge is power, power to rule others- (Degallier, 5) "The sin of pride is associated with the concept of power, for pride is itself a corruption of power- (Degallier, 4) Saruman and Sauron believe they are unstoppable and this just adds to the fire, their pride will make them go as far as destroying everyone to control everything.
