The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka is about the ultimate betrayal and rejection of an individual by his family and the society. Before Gregor's metamorphosis his life consisted of working and providing for his family. He worked as a travel sales man, working long hours which did not allow him to live his own life. Gregor did not like job because he could no longer tolerate his boss because he always disapprove of him in whatever he had done. The only reason why Gregor accepted his boss dissatisfaction were because his family had to pay off a debt. If it wasn't for that he would have departed a long time ago. .
When Gregor awaked one morning he found out he was no longer a human being, but a monstrous vermin. In the beginning he thought it was a dream and if he were to go back to sleep he would be back to normal. However, this will be the day Gregor's life changed forever. He was in a total state of shock wondering how would he manage going to work and facing his boss. Gregor knew if he didn't show up, the Chief Clerk would arrive to his house to inquire why he hadn't come to work. Little did he know the Chief Clerk had arrive at his house asking his parents why haven't their son come to work. During his transformation Gregor acknowledge he could no longer talk so he decided to show himself to his parents and the Chief Clerk. When he open the door and reveal his new identity . Mrs. Samsa, Gregor's mother passed out on to the floor. The Chief Clerk proceeded to the door leaving his belongings behind wanted nothing to do with Gregor. Mr. Samsa, Gregor's father chased this so called bug his son back into his room. In addition, to Gregor's alteration the family and society went through a metamorphosis too adjusting to Gregor's new identity.
The first rejection that Gregor encountered was from his boss. His boss did not think that Gregor could be suitable for the job because he was unable to handle the position as a traveling sales man and the company could no longer use him.
