The plot of the story is about a woman, who for some reason that is unknown to the reader, is crazy. From her point of view, you watch her rapidly descend farther into that insanity, her main focus being the yellow wallpaper in her bedroom. At the beginning, the main character is fixated on how ugly the wallpaper is, it bothers her, and she doesn't like it. She becomes more and more fixated, until she is totally obsessed. By the end she has gone completely nuts and turned in to a raving lunatic.
The main character never really seems all right in this story. At first you're given the impression that the woman has, or is overcoming, some kind of physical illness. But after a while, you come to the realization that she's pretty much screwed in the head. The story doesn't give much background information, or insight into the main character's life. Therefore, the whole time I read it, I was wondering about why she was so messed up, and what, exactly, was going on. There was quite a bit of mystery to the plot, which is ok, cause it kept me thinking, and kept me interested.
The husband was also a mystery to me. It's hard to tell what he has to do with the story, and weather or not he has something to do with his wife's condition. Like maybe he locks her in the house all the time, or is psychologically abusive, or something that would cause the woman to go nuts. .
Watching the main character go more and more insane is the rising action of the story. It starts out like the wife is frail or maybe sick, cause she can't go outside and her husband watches and controls everything she does. It mentions doctors, and getting advise from doctors, so its obvious there's something wrong with her. That's when you realize there is even more to it than that, and that she has a lot of mental issues. You start noticing right away the girl is kind of nutty, and the action rises as she starts to have delusions and hallucinations.
