e location of the crime was given but as to what the socioeconomic status was wasn't given. While discussing this in class we found out that it was a high-class society. Knowing this detail helps me to understand the essay by not thinking it was a ghetto like I was before. Now knowing that it was an upper class society the way the policemen treated Bain and his family is more understood because some white people don't think black people are as equal.              Bain also uses a unique format to write his essay. He uses bold print titles stating the black Bill of Rights before each paragraph. The amendments are in bold headings to give the audience an idea of what the following paragraph is about such as "the right of any white person to apprehend a nigger will not be infringed." As I read the essay I was shocked at the way the officers treated the family and how quickly they were thought of being the guilty party. Bain mentions how he knew his rights were violated and other legal jargon throughout his essay. Bain's fellow classmates would read this essay and be quite interested in the format.
