Use Of The Term Death In The Bible

The first being that death is the normal end to all life. The view that death is nothing more than a typical end to a fulfilled life is found in both the older and more recent texts of the Old Testament. In the Old Testament, death is viewed as nearly an end to all existence. (Job 7:21 - Ps. 39:13) Which is revealed by such verses as, " After a happy old age, man, full of years, is gathered to his people."(Gen. 15:15; 28:8) Also the verse, " A human life, arrived at full maturity, is plucked like a ripe stalk at harvest time."(Job 5:26) If you examine life and death in this regard, then what happens after death is not really important. .
Many who follow God become preoccupied by where they will go when they pass on. At the time it was most commonly believed that one would either go to Sheol ( Hell), or would exist in the family sepulcher. However, in the Old Testament, it is said that certain conditions must be fulfilled in order for death to be an end to existence. These conditions consist of three things.
The normal life span must be attained of 120 years in Genesis 6:3 or 70 years in Ps. 90:10. The deceased must leave children to keep his name alive and of which he bestows a testament or blessing. Also, the dead must be buried in a sepulcher, for it is necessary to avoid any possibility of his taking revenge and upsetting the equilibrium between the living and the dead. When one died in the prime of his life or childless, it created a rational fear over premature death to the Bible's readers. The underlying meaning of death is that humanity and all God's creation must accept mortality and all it brings with it. This acceptance follows the fear of premature death and the possibility that death may strike at any moment. By this fear, the religious were committed to resolving this problem and easing minds. .
The second aspect of death is as an opposite of life.
