Bayushi Shoju and his Lieutenant explore through the underground catacombs beneath the Scorpion castle in order to retrieve the scroll which holds the prophecy of FuLeng, which foretold the downfall of Rokugan. After translating it, the scorpion council came to the conclusion that in order to avert this catastraphe they must end the imperial line by killing the emporor and his heir. This would prove difficult for the Scorpion who was already distrusted and dispised by all other clans.
Shoju and company set off on a perilious journey to seek the advise of the Dragon Daimyo, who is believed to have the wisdom of the ages at his disposal.
Meanwhile Totori, Daimyo of the Lion Clan is romancing with his secret lover Hatsuko when a dragon appears to him and warnes him of future dishonour. Totori is pre engaged and Hatsuko was a geisha, it would be a disgrace to the imperial court for him to announce his love for her.
Upon return to Kyuden Bayushi (Scorpion castle), Shoju and Tetsuo retrieve the bloodsword "Yashin"from within the deepest dungeon of the castle. "Yashin" meaning "ambition" and it's deadly song of seduction. .
Katchiko buys the geisha house Hatsuko works at and convinces her that the only way her and Totori can ever be together was in the after life. So she offers her a vile of poison. Hatsuko feels bad that she must do this so she pours only half the vile in his drink. Than throws herself over a cliff.
