arent that Archie is the older of the two, or that he is at a higher rank in their club. The two are constantly sharing an odd relationship throughout the chapter. Obie will go from calling Archie a bastard to admiring him, it's all very odd! (I.e. "The bastard that Obie alternately hated and admired.") The chapter closes with Jerry's name and assignment being put in their book.

Symbols: The only aspect that I found to be semi symbolic was the field post shadows" on the football field. I think that this was symbolism of The Vigils ways crossing into Jerry's life.

Obie- The secretary of The Vigils. His main job being to keep Archie happy. He works at the supermarket in town, hates the job and wishes that he could be hanging out at the canteen. Believes strongly that Archie is a bastard. .
Archie- Is in charge of the assignments for The Vigils. Has incredible mood-swings is able to turn people "on and off". Has blond hair, rather tall and fairly slender.
