Terrorism

Terrorism is a big problem haunting not only the United States, but also other countries in the world. Whether its domestic or international, terrorism is a serious problem in this lifetime. Some say the problem is gun control. There are currently 200 million guns in the U.S. The U.S. is currently spending 11 billion dollars a year in the fight against terrorism. .
In the last couple of years we have started to find out that not just adults can commit acts of terror. In the past year of so we have faced a big problem with school shootings. Columbine is the one the one that probably sticks in most of the minds of people, but just today another shooting occurred in Santee, California wounding 13 people and killing 2. The suspect is only 15 years old. Another case of terrorism took place in Northern Ireland. Yesterday at midnight, London time, dissident IRA members were accused of packing 10 to 20 pounds of explosives into a taxi cab and detonating it in front of British Broadcasting Corp.'s Television Centre in west London. Alan Fry, head of the Metropolitan Police anti-terrorist branch, said, "I fear we will see more attacks n he coming days or weeks." Another terrorist bombing that has happened recently was a suicide bombing in Israel killing 4 and injuring many others.
But not all acts of terror are life threatening as seen Ecuador. Colombian terrorists are attacking villagers on the Ecuadorian side of the order between the two countries. A coordinated attack since the beginning of this week (Feb.19, 2001) on the villages of Bermeja San Miguel, Jambeli, Cascales, and Sucubios drove 317 villagers out of their homes. The week before, terrorist forces drove out 272 villagers. As of February 20, a total of 589 people in Ecuador have been made homeless by Colombian terrorists, becoming "internally displaced" refugees.
Acts like these put a real damper on the world. The president is not going to be able to deal with just terrorism because of other problems in the U.
